MRS. WRIGHT

Sharon Wright is a second year teacher to Brighton Academy, but brings forty-three years of experience with her to the classroom. Sharon has spent all but one year of that time in Christian education and loves to incorporate Christian values and God’s Word in her lessons with her students. She holds a BA degree in Elementary Education and extended class work at Mid America toward a Master’s Degree. Her early teaching experiences were in special education programs and then she moved to Overland Park, Kansas. She taught 27 years for Overland Christian Schools in the Elementary School department in several different grade levels. She taught Elementary Education college classes for 16 of those years for Kansas Christian College. In 2005 Sharon moved to the 4th grade at Whitefield Academy, a classical school, and worked there for 11 years. She is trained in Spell to Write and Read, Cursive First, Progymnasmata, and the Lexile reading program. Sharon loves to learn and is constantly studying and improving in all areas of her life.

Sharon has worked extensively with tutoring students in reading, math, and any area that a child may be struggling to understand in the classroom environment. She has an uncanny ability to assess how a student thinks and develop strategies that will make learning easier for him or her.  She does tutoring on the days she is not at Brighton and works with two other schools to help their students.

Sharon has a son, Darric and wife Jennifer that live in south Olathe. They have two little people in their home, Savannah, and Sawyer, who call Sharon “grandma” and bring her lots of joy. Sharon has a daughter, Katrina and husband Randy, who live in Hobe Sound, Florida with their three offspring, Kayla, Kristel, and Jared. That gives her an excuse to “fly” away once in a while to a tropical retreat!

Today was a very big day in Math.  We learned how to add ten to a two digit number, worked again on the sums of ten, and worked at identifying pairs.  We had Assessment #6 and then Side A of Lesson 35 and 36.  Homework:  Please complete Side B for Lesson 35 and Lesson 36.

On today's lessons of Lesson 33 and 34 we worked at learning the numbers that are added together to make ten and then divided shapes into halves, fourths, thirds and sixths.  It was a lively class and everyone worked very hard on the new concepts.  They are definitely learning!  HOMEWORK:  Please do Side B for Lesson 33 and 34.

Today we did Lesson 31 and 32 in our Math class.  We studied counting by 5's, learning to make tally marks, and lines.  The students caught on to the lines such as horizontal, vertical and oblique, but some could not get the tally mark concept.  HOMEWORK:  Please continue to work on counting by 5's and have your child work at making tally marks in the next 24 hours.  We shook 10 pennies in our hands and then tallied how many were heads and how many tails we saw.
